Certification of Advanced Training and Specialization (CATS) in School Crisis Response and Intervention

During the past year and a half, members of the CASP Crisis Intervention Steering Committee (CISC) have been discussing and developing a proposal to facilitate training and knowledge of best practices in school crisis prevention, response, and intervention, among school psychologists and other educational professionals .

Members of the CASP CISC were instrumental in planning and presentations for the 2001 CASP Summer Institute on School Crisis Prevention and Intervention and preparing for a related 2002 CASP Summer Institute. At the recent CASP board meeting (October 20, 2001) the CASP CISC proposal to develop a second Certification of Advanced Training and Specialization (CATS) program was approved. Following the highly successful CATS in Functional Analysis and Behavior Intervention, this new program (tentatively titled School Crisis Response and Intervention) aims to provide California school psychologists with opportunities to obtain
