Department of Mental Health - Prop 63 Funding
The
passage of Proposition 63 (now known as the Mental
Health Services Act or MHSA) in November 2004, provides the first
opportunity in many years for the Department of Mental Health (DMH) to provide
increased funding, personnel and other resources to support county mental
health programs and monitor progress toward statewide goals for children,
transition age youth, adults, older adults and families. The Act addresses
a broad continuum of prevention, early intervention and service needs and the
necessary infrastructure, technology and training elements that will
effectively support this system. The Department of Mental Health has created a
state commission to oversee implementation of the MHSA. A series of
meetings/hearings are being held to get local community recommendations. Be
sure to attend the local meeting held in your county regarding your local
services. The local meetings will set priorities on how the money will be
allocated in your county.-Get involved locally.
CASP
President Irene Elliott believes that it is important to get school personnel
to attend these meetings and testify about the importance and efficacy of
providing adequate mental health services in the schools. This is a critical
time in the planning stages for the allotment of MHSA prevention and early
intervention monies.
If
you cannot attend one of the meetings (time and place explained below) please
considering writing a letter to MHSA and present your views. For assistance
