Last year, I co-authored two articles in CASP Today encouraging school psychologists to expand their roles beyond special education gate keeping (Shift Happens articles—Powers & Leung, Vol. 52 (1) ; and Leung & Powers, Vol. 52 (2)). Since then, I have heard from a number of versatile school psychologists who involve themselves with students, families, and school in unique and exciting ways. They speak of contributions to their schools, the benefits to students, and the personal joy about the profession, stuff that I seldom hear from those mired in test batteries and IEP meetings!
