CASP Representatives Attend NASP Public Policy Institute – Federal Legislative Update

Seventy-two school psychologists from more than 40 states attended a phenomenal training, public policy forum and legislative advocacy session in Washington, D.C. in June.
Sponsored by NASP’s Government and Professional Relations Committee, the third Public Policy Institute (PPI) offered the opportunity for state leaders and advocates to hear from legislative and administrative staff regarding current legislation, receive in-depth training from NASP leaders and staff regarding critical federal policy issues concerning education and mental health, and work with state leaders from throughout the nation on issues of mutual concern. Three days of meetings and policy sessions was concluded by a day of Capitol Hill visits, with school psychologists visiting more than 100 congressional staff members.

from California were CASP members Lee Huff, currently on loan from California
to serve as president of NASP; Jerry O’Day, longtime CASP board member, NASP
GPR Committee member and co-chair of NASP’s Health Care Initiative; and Brent
Duncan, new member of NASP’s GPR Committee and 2002-2003 CASP president. The
three are committed to working collaboratively within CASP and NASP to ensure
that the school psychologists associations’
