Shift Happens... (Part I)

In 1995, a school psychologist was asked how members of his profession could contribute to the National Education agenda codified in Goals 2000. After listing numerous ways in which psychologists could assist students, teachers and educational systems in achieving these ambitious goals he stated "...and if school psychologists can not contribute and commit to the national mission of our country, people may begin to wonder if we are needed at all." (Geenen, 1996, p. 6).

Goals 2000 has since come and gone, undoubtedly assisted by psychologists who labored with other educational professionals to achieve the promise articulated in this legislation. Yet their unique contributions (or lack there of) have
