Status Report on Specific Learning Disability

Many school psychologists in California are aware that the definition and the assessment of specific learning disability (SLD) are being reevaluated at both the state and federal level. Concerns about SLD eligibility have been raised by both state and federal agencies with the intent of considering alternatives to the current definitions and regulations. The purpose of this article is to describe state level activity on this issue, as well as review federal summit presentations written for consideration in the reauthorization of IDEA.
